First you hear it: a soft buzz cutting through the street. Then you see it, and just like that, it is gone. At eighty years old, the Vespa remains one of the most electrifying icons ever to grace the open road, and now, for the first time, Assouline captures its singular spirit in a volume worthy of its legend.
Structured thematically rather than chronologically, this book traces the evolution of a brand that has never lost its essence, exploring Vespa's deep roots in Italian culture, its prominence across subcultures, its enduring relationship with fashion, film, and sport, and its remarkable ability to feel like a personal accessory as much as a vehicle. Rare archival material including vintage brochures, original global advertisements, and historic calendars drawn from the Vespa archive brings each chapter to vivid life.
Written by Michael Köckritz, award-winning publisher and editor in chief behind some of the world's most celebrated design and lifestyle publications, this is not a technical manual or a collector's catalogue. It is a cultural portrait.
For the free-spirited, the adventurous, and those who understand that the most iconic things in life are never merely functional. This book can be paired with the Assouline exclusive Vespa helmet.
